Scratch-Pad Field Referencing 

HP ALLBASE/4GL provides you with 100 scratch-pad fields.

You can reference scratch-pad fields by name or by number.

You can reference a substring of a scratch-pad field if its contents are
not numeric.

Reference by Name 

You can assign a name to a scratch-pad field using the dictionary
scratch-pad fields screen.  (Refer to chapter 5.)  A scratch-pad field
defined this way can be referenced by name.

Formats 

     P-name 
     P-name[start_pos,number_of_chars]

Reference by Number 

You can reference scratch-pad fields by their absolute number.

Formats 

     *Pnn 
     *Pnn[start_pos,number_of_chars]

where nn is the scratch-pad field number, from 00 to 99.

Scratch-pad field number 00 is the same as the communication area field
*PASS.
