Layout Function Keys

The screen painter layout function keys allow you to move, copy or delete
fields and items on the application screen. Press the Layout Keys
function key on the Main Keys function key set to display the layout
function keys.

Moving and Copying Fields

The screen painter allows you to move or copy individual items, groups of
items, or defined blocks of items. You cannot move or copy fields to
locations that cause screen clashes. If you attempt such a move or copy
operation, the painter displays a warning message.

To move or copy an individual item or field, move the cursor to the item
and then press the Move or Copy function key. Position the cursor at
the new location for the item and press Return to complete the move or
copy. You can continue moving or copying the selected item until you
press the End Function function key.

To move or copy a group of fields, move the cursor to the first field in
the group and press the Move or Copy function key. Pressing the
Move or Copy again includes the next field in the tabbing sequence for
the screen in the group of fields to moved or copied. The painter
highlights the fields that are included in the group. When you have
included all the fields you want to move (or copy), position the cursor
at the new location for the first field in the group, and press Return.
You can continue to move or copy the group of fields until you press the
End Function key.

Block Move and Copy Functions.

To move or copy a block of fields, you must first define the block with
the Begin Block and End Block function keys.

The Begin Block and End Block function keys allow you to define a
rectangular area or block on the screen. All fields that are wholly or
partly enclosed in the rectangular area are moved or copied as part of
the block. To mark a block, move the cursor to the top left corner of
the block that you want to mark, and press the Begin Block function
key. Move the cursor to the bottom right corner of the block and press
the End Block function key. Note that the cursor does not need to be
on a field or screen item while you are marking the begin block and end
block positions.

You can now press the Move or Copy function key and position the
cursor at the new position for the top left corner of the block. Press
Return to move or copy the block. You can continue moving or copying the
block until you press the End Function function key.

Deleting Items

You can delete individual items, a group of items, or a block of items on
the application screen.

To delete an item, move the cursor to the item and press the Delete
function key. The painter responds with the message Are you sure you
want to delete? Enter Y to confirm the deletion or press any other key
to abort the deletion.

To delete a group of items, move the cursor to the first item in the
group, and press the Delete function key. The painter responds with
the message Are you sure you want to delete? Pressing the Delete
function key again includes the next item in the tabbing sequence in the
group of items selected for deletion. The items selected for deletion
are highlighted as you select them. Continue pressing the Delete
function key until you have selected all the items you want to delete.
You can now enter Y to confirm the deletion. Any other entry aborts the
deletion.

You can delete a block of items. All items that are wholly or partly
included in the rectangular area defined by the begin block and end block
positions are deleted.

To delete a block of items, use the Begin Block and End Block
function keys to mark the block of items you want to delete, and then
press the Delete function key. The painter requests you to confirm the
deletion. Enter Y to confirm the deletion. Any other entry aborts the
deletion.

Column Entry Mode

The column entry mode simplifies the entry of tabulations or vertical
lists on the screen. When column entry mode is on, pressing Return to
terminate an entry moves the cursor to the next screen line and positions
it directly below the beginning of the previous field.

To select column entry mode, press the Column Mode function key. This
key toggles the column entry mode on or off. Pressing the key a second
time turns the column mode off. The painter displays an asterisk in the
key label when column mode is on.
