HP EDIT Reference Manual
Prerequisites And Recommendations
HP EDIT runs on the HP 3000 under the MPE operating system. You can use
HP EDIT on HP262x, HP239x and HP700/9x terminals (80-character mode
only), or others that adhere to these terminal specifications. You can
also access HP EDIT with personal computers using terminal emulation
packages, such as AdvanceLink.
In order to run, the HP EDIT program file must reside in a user group
that has Process Handling (PH), Data Segment (DS), and Save File (SF)
capabilities. If the software is placed in the PUB.SYS group, as
recommended, this requirement should pose no problems.
HP EDIT is not recommended for use in network environments that do not
support a highly interactive dialog between the user and the host
machine. This precludes networks, such as X.25, which have a large
amount of lag time (greater than one-half second) and use separate
transmissions for prompting and reading responses. It is also
recommended that HP EDIT not be used on heavily loaded systems or those
burdened with a large number of terminals.
