Silhouette Reference Manual

System Shutdown 

The Silhouette database duplicating process can be stopped by the
Operator either smoothly or abruptly.

Smoothly 

To stop Silhouette smoothly, issue a >STOP command to the Manager Program
(MP) on the primary system.  The MP informs the Communication Process
(CP) to wait for a quiet period, as described in the System Backup
section, and then to stop transporting log records.  This will leave the
database in a logically consistent state.

Abruptly 

To stop Silhouette abruptly, issue a >KILL command to the Manager Program
(MP) on the primary system.  The MP informs the Communication Process
(CP) to stop transporting records immediately.  The database may be left
in an inconsistent state.  The Operator can restart Silhouette and any
partial transactions will be completed by the Silhouette software.
