Differences Between RJE/V and RJE/XL

The following items are differences between RJE/V and RJE/XL.

 *  X.21 is not supported in RJE/XL.

 * NMMGR Configuration - since SYSDUMP no longer exists for MPE/XL, RJE
    link configuration data should be entered via NMMGR. Refer to the
    section pertaining to NMMGR configuration in the RJE/XL Node
    Manager's Guide.

 * CS ERROR Code - RJE/XL generates fewer error codes than RJE/V. The
    error codes section will explain the set generated by RJE/XL.

 * Tracing - the format of the trace entries have changes drastically
    from RJE/V. Also, the MDUMP program will now be used to format the
    trace instead of CSDUMP.

Refer to the RJE/XL Node Manager's Guide for more information on
troubleshooting and tracing.

 * LINKCONTROL Command - RJE/XL will now support the LINKCONTROL command
    for displaying status/statistics and dynamically turning trace on and
    off. Replaces SHOWCOM in MPE V.

 * NMMAINT - RJE/XL will now be part of the NMMAINT utility that
    displays the version numbers of all the components of a particular
    subsystem.

 * On RJE/V, if the INP is configured as a dialup line and an initial
    linebid timeout occurs, an initial linebid fails or the inactivity
    timer pops, the INP sends a DLE EOT and drops the link. On RJE/XL,
    the PSI drops the link only after the local timeout pops.

 * #RJLINE Command on RJE/XL - The NODE and QUEUETIME parameters are no
    longer valid since X.21 is not supported. Also, since logical
    devices are no longer valid, if the DEV parameter specifies a number,
    it will be interpreted as an RJE linkname, RJExxx, where xxx is a
    number specified. In MPE V, if DEV and NODE are omitted, the default
    is to open a device in class RJLINE. If DEV is omitted with RJE/XL,
    the default is to use/open one of the available configured RJE links
    in NMMGR. It is usually not advisable to omit the DEV parameter with
    RJE/XL, since the user cannot determine which link will be used.

 * Although the TRACE=ON parameter syntax remains the same, only the
    trace file name field will be used. The rest of the fields ALL,
    WRAP, MASK, and numentries will be ignored. However, the trace file
    name field is still a positional parameter, and the appropriate
    number of commas must still be present. The default trace file for
    RJE/XL is NMTRC###.PUB.SYS. For example,

         TRACE=ON,,,,,TRCEFILE
