COMMUNICATOR 3000 MPE/iX General Release 5.0 (Core Software Release C.50.00)
HP OpenView Console/System Manager Changes
by Raymond Hsu and Praveen Prabhakaran
Commercial Systems Division
For the MPE/iX 5.0 General Release, the HP OV Console/SysMgr 3000
software has been changed at the event transport layer, making the new
management node software (version A.01.03) incompatible with the old
managed node software (versions prior to A.01.03).
To bring the managed node software to the compatible version, perform the
remote software installation from your OpenView PC using the:
Console Setup icon (in the case of OV Console)
or
MgdNode Setup icon (in the case of OV SysMgr)
Once the remote software installation is done, run the vercheck.ems.sysmgr
program on all the updated managed nodes to make sure that all program
files report version A.01.03. (The NMEVENT intrinsic remains at
A.01.01.)
The HP OV Console/SysMgr PC Software Moving to 7.2
The PC component of the HP OV Console/SysMgr product will have a new
release in the first quarter of 1995. This new version will run on
OpenView 7.2.
Reflection1 for Windows is the only terminal emulator supported with this
release. AdvanceLink is no longer supported.
This new version will have major improvements in its user interface to
keep up with advancements in Windows user interface technology.
New Features.
The following are some of the new features which will be offered with the
PC software release:
* Link Status Display (LSD) will have a user interface on the PC.
The original LSD program on the management node will still be
available.
* A new LAN Console program will allow the COM ports to be used
dynamically to get control console.
* Windows Multiple Document Interface technology will be used for
the event browser, monitor console and X.25 control console
modules.
* Ability to copy entire submaps with pattern replacements on object
names. This is very useful in creating system-based maps.
* Ability to create multiple folders to save specific event
messages. (In the previous version only one folder could be
used.)
* Ability to use user-created map symbols in the OpenView map and
receive events in them.
* Ability to disable reporting events to the OpenView alarm log.
* Beeper support will be available when using the Workgroup Node
Manager 1.0 platform. (This way you can configure OV
Console/System Manager to call your beeper when it encounters a
critical event.)
