COMMUNICATOR 3000 MPE/iX General Release 5.0 (Core Software Release C.50.00)
MPE/iX 5.0 Release Strategy
MPE/iX Release 5.0 was first made available to customers in June, 1994.
The HP Communicator and other documentation refer to this release as
the "Limited Release" of 5.0. You may also have seen it called the
"5.0 PULL". It was released with a V.UU.FF of "X.50.20". HP made this
release available for customers who were receiving new hardware
platforms and who had a need for the new enhancements in 5.0, such as
POSIX or the SETCLOCK command. Customers had to place an order to
receive Release "5.0 PULL".
In the first quarter of 1995, HP will begin shipments of the 5.0
Platform Release. As a Platform Release, 5.0 will have an extended
support life and will become the target for new functionality, product
enhancements, and patches. The Platform Release will be distributed to
all customers with support contracts. You do not need to place an
order to receive it. The 5.0 Platform Release will have a V.UU.FF of
"C.50.00", and has also been referred to as the "General Release" of
5.0 or as "5.0 PUSH".
The early exposure of 5.0 (X.50.20) has given us opportunities to make
some improvements in the quality of 5.0 before its Platform
distribution. Because of this, those customers who have received the
"X.50.20" version of 5.0 will be expected to update to the "C.50.00"
version soon after they receive it.
