Introducing HP Open DeskManager and HP Open DeskManagerPLUS

HP Open DeskManager C.00.00 and HP Open DeskManagerPLUS C.00.00 for
MPE/iX systems is the next generation of HP DeskManager. Although
significant enhancements have been made, it remains highly compatible
with earlier versions of the product.
HP Open DeskManager is for MPE/iX customers. HP DeskManager will remain
available for MPE/V customers.
The following is a brief summary of HP Open DeskManager and HP Open
DeskManagerPLUS features. Please refer to the "Technical Articles"
chapter of this Communicator for details.
Clients of Choice
Through its Desk User Agent Layer (DUAL), HP Open DeskManager systems can
be accessed by personal computers using industry standard Lotus cc:Mail
and Microsoft Mail client software as follows:
Third-Party Clients:
- Lotus cc:Mail for Windows, version 1.12
- Microsoft Mail for Windows, version 3.2
HP DeskNote A.00.00
The HP Open DeskManager terminal interface features a word-wrap text
editor, called HP DeskNote, which is used for creating and editing
messages and text items.
Partial Native Mode Port/Improved Scalability
The HP Open DeskManager terminal interface and segmented library have
been ported to native mode, giving improved performance for the terminal
user.
Additional Features
* AUTOPRINT
For users who are "hard-copy" users of electronic mail. This
capability allows messages to be printed automatically for
distribution in hard-copy form.
* Display Enhancements
An alternative display format which allows suppression of some of
the information displayed by the HP Open DeskManager terminal
interface when reading and printing messages.
* Terminal Interface Response Time Logging
This feature has been added to provide a log file of transactions
for the HP Open DeskManager terminal interface.
* Enhanced People Moving Capabilities
This facility enables the contents of a user's In Tray, Out Tray
and Pending Tray to be transferred together with the List Area and
Filing Cabinet when a user is moved from one machine to another.
HP Open DeskManagerPLUS
In addition to the above, HP Open DeskManagerPLUS will retain the
features indicated below that are part of HP DeskManagerPLUS:

* HP DeskMon
* HP Schedule
* DCA FFT & RFT Converters
* NS Transport Data Compression
* Routing and Authorization
* High Availability/Garbage Collection
HP Open DeskManagerPLUS New Features
* Updating Distribution Lists Automatically
A new server has been added to allow distribution lists to be
updated throughout a network. This can be done after mail nodes
have been consolidated, or after users change their name or mail
node.
* HP Spell
HP Spell software is supplied to enable spell checking in the
terminal interface and within the HP DeskNote text editor.
