Introducing the MPE/iX Developer's Kit by Rajesh Lalwani Commercial Systems Division The MPE/iX Developer's Kit (p/n 36340A) is designed for solution suppliers and customers who want to develop POSIX applications or port UNIX applications to the HP 3000. The kit includes all the software, documentation and support necessary to port or develop applications in a client/server environment. A workstation such as HP 9000 Series 700 or Sun SPARC workstation may also be used with the HP 3000 for cross development. This allows developers to take advantage of programmer productivity tools (editors and debuggers) on the workstation while deploying the application on the HP 3000 for run-time operations.
NOTE POSIX application developers such as Value Added Businesses (VABs) and Value Added Resalers (VARs) will need the MPE/iX Developer's Kit which includes, among other things, a relocatable library (RL) /lib/libc.a. The Fundamental Operating System (FOS) contains the core of the POSIX.1 functions available, but this RL provides the necessary C language interface. Once the object files have been linked with this RL, end users can run the resulting POSIX application on an HP`3000 Series 900 system. End users do not need the Developer's Kit.
SYSTEM ENVIRONMENT The MPE/iX Developer's Kit requires MPE/iX Release 4.5 or subsequent versions. If a UNIX workstation is used for cross development, required components include NFS/3000 software and LAN Link/3000. MPE/iX Shell and Utilities product is supplied as a part of the FOS.
