HP DeskManager Intrinsics

Gateway Intrinsics

The Gateway Intrinsics allow an application to log on to an HP Desk
gateway, that is an external connection, and send or receive messages on
behalf of any user associated with that gateway. The Gateway Intrinsics
are intended for connections with other mailing systems.

The Gateway Intrinsics are:

HPDGateSignon Allows an application to sign on to an HP Desk
gateway. A gateway name and password must be
                   provided.

HPDGateSend Allows an application to send messages, replies and
acknowledgments to users on behalf of any user
associated with the gateway specified in the
                   HPDGateSignon call.

HPDGateReceive Allows an application to scroll through messages,
replies or acknowledgments left on the mail node
queues associated with the signed on gateway.

For more detailed information on each of the Gateway Intrinsics see
Chapter 5 .

An Example of How the Gateway Intrinsics Could be Used

A company's head office in New York has HP Desk installed. Its
subsidiary office in Colorado uses a different mailing system. Head
office has a communications link with Colorado and would like to extend
it to send and receive mail electronically with Colorado.

Head office could set up a gateway on their HP Desk system to connect to
Colorado. HP Desk users could then send messages to users, routed
through this gateway in the normal way. An application must be written
with a component that runs on the gateway machine. This application must
call HPDGateReceive to extract messages addressed to Colorado from the HP
Desk database. It then passes them on to the Colorado machine and into
the Colorado mailing system.

When users in Colorado send messages to New York, the user application
extracts the messages from the Colorado system and passes them to the HP
Desk gateway machine. A component of the user application, running on
the HP Desk gateway machine, then calls HPDGateSend to pass the messages
into the HP Desk network.
