HP DeskManager Intrinsics
Formatting Conventions
The following special conventions for formatting character-based data
must be adhered to.
User Names
These include sender/creator names and names of the recipients of
messages. Names must be formatted in a block of 108 bytes as shown
below. Names will always be output by the Intrinsics in this way.
Byte Position Contents
1-36 Family name (space filled to 36 bytes)
37-72 First forename if relevant (space filled to 36 bytes)
73-108 Second forename if relevant (space filled to 36 bytes)
This means the format "SMITH, John" will not be accepted, it must be in
the format:
Byte Byte
1 37
SMITH John
NOTE A first forename cannot appear without a family name, and a second
forename cannot appear without the other two. The length of each
name element must not exceed 36 characters and the total combined
length of the name cannot exceed 36 characters including
separators, as in HP Desk. Separators between the different parts
of the username are not necessary in this context. However,
remember that at other times, separators will be inserted between
the family name, first forename and second forename. This means
that if only one name element is provided, it cannot be more than
36 characters long, if two name elements are provided, they cannot
be more than a combined length of 35 characters to allow for a
separator, and if three name elements are provided they cannot be
more than a combined length of 34 characters to allow for two
separators.
Mailnodes
These are 8 bytes long, with the location field in the first 6 bytes and
the sublocation field in the remaining 2. If the location field is less
than 6 bytes long, it should be space filled to 6 bytes. If the
sublocation is only 1 byte long, or the address is hierarchic, the
sublocation field should be space filled. For example:
HP160001
MKTG S
The format MKTG/S will not be accepted.
Explicit Foreign Address and Foreign Address Alias Fields
These are taken without modification, except that leading and trailing
spaces are ignored. Carriage Return characters in the address string are
interpreted as representing a logical line-break. They are used in
formatted, postal style addresses.
Subject and Diary Label fields
These are taken without modification and should be space filled to 60 and
30 bytes respectively.
Content File Names
These are taken without modification except that leading spaces are
ignored. The remainder of the file name fields should be space filled as
necessary. They are in standard MPE filename format.
