Real Life Experience # 6
A home improvement products company identified a 10 month duration for its
ERP implementation. During the planning phase, project team training plans
were established in addition to end-user training. During the initial setup
and configuration phase, the manufacturing and sales team members were sent to
2 weeks of training on the system. As a result, no team members were available
to make key decisions regarding organization policy and procedure requirements.
In addition, consultants brought in to assist with the implementation were
forced to wait until the team returned before they could begin working on
system setup. The project exceeded the budget amounts allotted for this phase
and for consultants by 30% as a result of the lack of available personnel.
