A retail bookstore chain of 25 stores identified a 6 month implementation schedule to include core process requirements in Point of Sale, Finance, & Distribution. Consultants from a value-added reseller and the software vendor were added to the project team. This was the first time the consultants had worked with a company within this industry. As the project progressed, the company found that more and more 3rd party consultants were being employed to help facilitate an implementation solution in the business process areas. The project encountered a sizable number of “stall points” while waiting for the right technical and process consultants to arrive. As a result, the project missed it’s first 4 implementation dates for 10 stores and the project was 8 weeks late in completion.
