Networking Technology
Networking converts a shelf full of PC's into a cluster.
All our clusters use at least switched Fast Ethernet (100 Mbps) as node interconnect.
- Cheap and well supported.
Gigabit ethernet natural successor.
- Still too expensive as default node interconnect (but prices coming down quickly).
- Mainly used as backbone or for uplink to mass storage systems.
- Used in very demanding clusters (interactive data analysis).
- Drivers for Linux already available (AceNIC, Yellowfin).
