SNMP services are run on the HP3000
The management server polls the HP3000 for status information
There are standard M.IB.’s that can be used to obtain information about a system’s state.
SNMP is used to determine if the network communications are “down”. This is used as an indicator of a system that is down.
M.I.B.’s can do special tasks. There are M.I.B.’s that can be written by the user and polled by OpenView.
