Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF)
Total actual operating time
The MTBF is an expected future performance based on the actual past performance of a population of units.
Mean Time to Repair (MTTR)
The MTTR is an average amount of time that it takes to repair a component, based upon actual statistical data. MTTR can be calculated in different ways. A vendor may consider only the amount of on-site time that it takes to replace the component. The customer probably considers MTTR to include all of the time from when the unit failed until it is replaced, thus including hardware unavailability, response time, travel time plus on-site repair time.
