• No application context in network

  • can’t distinguish between buy vs. browse

• No application QoS

  • need http precedence and not just IP precedence

• No server QoS

  • network requests processed in FIFO and not packet priority
  • overloaded servers are bottleneck

• SSL traffic

  • opaque to network elements

Application QoS = Server QoS + Network QoS
